Length–Weight Relationship Of Fourfinger Threadfin (Eleutheronema Tetradactylum) Caught In Tungkal Ilir

Abstract


The senangin fish (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) is one of the high-value fishery resources in Tungkal Ilir Subdistrict, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency; however, information regarding the relationship between length and weight remains limited. This study aims to analyze the relationship between length and weight of senangin fish (Eleutheronema tetradactylum) landed in Tungkal Ilir Subdistrict, Tanjung Jabung Barat Regency. Sampling was conducted from February to March, 2026, in Tungkal Ilir Subdistrict, using an observational method with purposive sampling. The sample consisted of 400 senangin fish caught in gillnets with mesh sizes of 1.5 inches and 2 inches. The samples were separated by sex male and female. The data analyzed included length-weight relationships, condition factor, size classes, and first catch size. The results showed that male senangin fish caught using 1.5 inch gillnets exhibited an isometric growth pattern (b = 3.0547). Meanwhile, female senangin fish exhibited a negative allometric pattern (b = 2.3452). In the 2 inch gillnet, both male and female senangin fish exhibited negative allometric growth patterns with b values of 2.4362 and 2.6522, respectively. The correlation coefficients ranged from 0.8382 to 0.9657, indicating a strong to very strong relationship between length and weight. Condition factor values averaged between 0.8010 and 0.9794 for the 1.5-inch gillnet and between 1.0013 and 1.0024 for the 2-inch gillnet, indicating that the fish were in relatively good physical condition. These results show that the 1.5 inch and 2-inch gillnets are more selective in catching male senangin fish by targeting those with mature gonads. Thus, the length-weight relationship of senangin fish exhibits different growth patterns based on sex and mesh size.
