Abstract

The objective of this article is to identify the parasites isolated during coprological examinations in subjects aged 1-15 years at the Akram Limeté Hospital Center in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo. This is a quantitative study, based on the experimental method that took place in the laboratory and concerned only coprological examinations. The results in relation to the sex of children aged 1 to 15 years diagnosed positive with intestinal parasites inform that, male children were 56 (57.1%) and those of the opposite sex were 42 (42.9%). The age group of 6-10 years was the most represented with 49 parasitized people, followed by the age group of 1-5 years with 28 people and the age group of 11 to 15 years had 21 parasitized people. Of 98 children diagnosed with intestinal parasites, the majority, 57 (58.2%), were parasitized by Entamoeba histolytica, followed by 25 (25.5%) by Ascaris lumbricoides, Giardia intestinalis was identified in 12 children (12.2%) and Trichuris trichiura had parasitized 4 children (4.1%). These results affirm that intestinal parasitosis remains a public health problem in the city province of Kinshasa in general and in our study environment in particular. This situation is explained by the lack of personal hygiene (hand washing, clean food), good management of fecal peril which should involve the installation of latrines, sewers and wastewater treatment.
